Practicing Your Skills.

What are you specializing in?

I am specializing in Marketing and Lead Generation!

The reason that I have chosen to specialize in those 2 skills is that any business could use help with their marketing and lead generation. This is the “money making” activity that will bring them revenue and it is a much-needed service either in-house or from a contractor.

I have paid for courses that teach me how to do that and I have implemented their teachings.

While talking to others around me about what I’m doing, I was able to land a few gigs:

  • I was talking to one of my online friends who is promoting a company, she wanted to invest in advertising and I told her that I could do the advertising for her. She didn’t need to pay me, but of course, she will pay for her own ads.

  • I also know a guy who is the CEO of a telecommunications company. He has seen me doing advertising for my own business and he also wanted to invest in advertising to bring more customers to his business. Which I also offered my services.

  • The other great opening that I have, is that the marketing department on the Park District where I work don’t know much about advertising and when discussing the advertising methods that they can use, I offered my help which they accepted.

As you can see, this marketing and lead generation skill is not going to be putting money in my pocket yet!

But, I am getting the much-needed practice to get better at it.

The other good thing that may come out of it is that if I get happy customers, they may recommend me to their entrepreneur friends and I may be able to start charging for my services.

Sometimes we just need to look around us for the opportunities to start using our skills. People have the tendency to complicate their lives and go out of their way to get this done.

So, if you are specializing in something, look around you and try to find a way to practice your skills. As you read above, I landed some gigs, I will be practicing my skills and the owners will be getting leads for their businesses. It is a win-win situation!
