Are You Selling The Drill Or The Hole?

If you are selling a product or service, have you ever wondered if you are “selling the drill or the hole”?

I was selling the drill until…

I have been trying to build my online business for a while now (4+ years) and all this time I’ve been jumping from company to company, promoting a product or service and couple months later, jumping to another company to do the same.

and for some reason, I wasn’t able to sponsor anyone for my business opportunity!

I ‘ve watched others promoting the same thing and having results… why not me?

I jumped into another business opportunity and try doing the same thing. I tried recruiting people, selling the products and services and once again…

It didn’t work!

It was working for other people promoting the same thing!

I started asking myself… What is wrong with me?

I thought that I didn’t have enough luck like the guys who were producing results.

That I didn’t have the “connections” they had.

That I didn’t have a big list of prospects like they had.

I was more focus on trying to find the solution to my problem OUTSIDE of me…

when in reality, I WAS THE PROBLEM!

I didn’t have results until I learned how to “invite” people to take a look at my business opportunity in the “right way”

and as soon as I learned the “irresistible invitation” formula, I was able to sponsor 4 people into my business within the first month!

(if I only knew about it before….)

you see…

There are people who don’t know how to sell. When they join a business opportunity, let’s take for example a health and wellness company, they try to sell the shakes, pills, and potions.

These people also try to recruit others into their business by showing how the compensation plan works.

But NONE of this works.

You really have to understand what is it that you are selling.

Do you really think that you are selling shakes, pills, and potions? OR Are you REALLY selling confidence and feeling great?

“Nobody who bought a drill actually wanted a drill. They wanted a hole. Therefore, if you want to sell drills, you should advertise information about making holes – NOT information about drills!” – Perry Marshall

If you would like some examples…

  • A web designer doesn’t sell websites. He/she saves you time from learning HTML.
  • A camera doesn’t sell you photographs, it sells you the memories that you create when you take that picture
  • If you buy “emergency food”, you don’t buy it because you are hungry, you buy it because it gives you “peace of mind”
  • same goes for an alarm system, it gives you “peace of mind”

I hope these are enough examples for you to realize that you are NOT selling a product or service, you are selling something “more”.

So, how do you sell then?

It all boils down to the skills and knowledge of the person selling. NOT about the products or services.

You have to look for the “needs” in your target market and “satisfy” those needs with your product or service.

The simple actionable steps are:

  1. Make a friend
  2. Find a need
  3. Satisfy the need by “inviting” your new friend to take a look at your product or service.

Is that simple!

Now, remember that I mention that it all boils down to the skills and knowledge?

You have to develop the skills to “invite” people to take a look at your “solution” if you don’t know how to do it (and that’s why most people fail online) or you won’t be able to sell anything.

Here is the training system that I recommend for you to learn the “invitation” skill that will help you forever.

One more thing before I let you go…

Remember that nothing will work unless YOU do! – Practice, practice, practice.
